How do you put a spell on amethyst?
I have an amethyst crystal and I want to know if I can put a de-stress spell on it. And if I can I also want to know how. I'm wiccan but I'm kind of new to this. Can someone help me?

- There are many way's to do it. You can make you're own ritual :/ and you don't have to cast a spell on it. Amethyst is a very good choice for what you're trying to use it for. When ever you are stressed, simply grasp it in your hand, letting all the anger flow into the crystal by visualizing the anger as hot energy within you flowing from you, through your arms and into the crystal. and then put the crystal in cold salt water for a day to purify it of the negative energy you just placed. It's ALL ABOUT visualization and imagination, make sure the image of energy flowing through you is as vivid as possible.
- Who is Amethyst and why do you want to put a spell on him/her? lol... I kid... Well, I assume you want to create a talisman using the properties of amethyst as a correspondence. To this I can only say that you really don't need to do this. most people get the impression that you need to do anything special to a mineral in order to perform magic when in fact the oldest and most authoritative texts on the subject say that most substances in the natural world have a natural power of their own. This is the basis for the medieval tradition of "natural magic". Natural in this case means that the material has a natural "God given" power all its own and you can neither take from this or add to it. In this case all that need be done is study the tradition from the perspective of its classical practitioners and let the amethyst do what it naturally will. It is sort of a way of getting your mind out of its way, not much else is needed. A good modern source book on the subject is John Michael Greer's "Natural Magic". In practice you would look up the mineral or herb that you have to see what its natural energy is in order to see what it is good for. In the case of Amethyst we find that the word comes from the Greek for "not drunk" and find that it is classically used to prevent intoxication. In a broader Ceremonial framework we find that it is used also for work involving the classical planet "Jupiter" which is associated with abundance and health. So while one wouldn't cast a spell on it per-se one could use the natural Jupiterian qualities of the amethyst in a ritual used to invoke Jupiterian energies of abundance or health. So as you can see, Amethyst would be pretty good for what you are looking for, but in this case you don't really need to do anything to it. If you are concerned with previous owners vibes interfering with it then just use sea salt and water to soak it and that should work well enough from the perspective of most Wiccan traditions. If you are looking for something with a little more oomph then you could try a little bit of baking soda with some salt in rain water (unless of course you can get some real live Egyptian Natron which this attempts to mimic). If you want to have a little more of yourself in the process you could use the amethyst in a ritual to "de-stress" yourself. Using a standard Wiccan format you could have the amethyst on your altar and in order to stress the intrinsically divine natural force that this stone classically is said to portray ask the God/Godess to "bless me with this creature of stone that I may be more open and live with emotional ease in my day to day life." Then you could carry the stone with you as a talisman or charm. In this case you are not doing anything to the stone, you are letting the God/Goddess do this action to you through the stone with its own natural force. I hope I didn't type your eyes out and I know this is a lot to absorb but I tried to be comprehensive since I don't know much about your personal tradition or level of study. Feel free to email me if you have other questions I've been involved in the Pagan movement for quite a few years now and if I don't know an answer I probably know someone who does.
