How can you tell if you brought a fake amethyst?

I brought it for $10.00 so I think it's fake.

1. why does the amount make you think it is fake? the price will vary depending on the size and grade of the crystal. Its not likely to be fake, it is one of the most widely available crystals out there, therefore it is one of the least expensive. In raw form they are usually much cheaper than a cut gem. Are you able to post a picture? I will be able to tell straight away.
2. I have never in my life seen a "fake" amethyst. To bother creating a fake one would take a lot of time and effort and make no sense for the maker. The reason being is that amethysts are some of the most common stones found all over the world. I've bought little shards of amethyst for $5 before, so $10 for a chunk of amethyst isn't unheard of at all.
