How can i differentiate this minerals,green garnet and green fluorite?

Hi everyone,how can i differentiate a green garnet and a green fluorite?are there any physical differences,because i have this green stone from Kenya and it looks like a garnet but also like a fluorite,any answers would realy be appreciated,thanks

1. Garnet is much harder than fluorite. Garnet should scratch the steel on a knife. Fluorite has no chance of doing that, steel will carve it up.
2. Do a scratch test on a glass plate - garnet will scratch it, fluorite won't!
3. Take them to a shop which has a UV light for checking banknotes. The fluorite will change colour and fluoresce - hence its name. The garnet will just reflect the UV light back and be the same colour as the light. Or you can buy a keyring UV light very cheaply. Try online security shops.
